Brighton residents have been named the ‘happiest people in Britain’, according to a new survey.

Research commissioned by travel guide, Lonely Planet, has found that people who live in the Regency seaside city are the most content in the country, The Argus reports.

With its beaches, culture, attractions and heritage, it’s no wonder that over 90 per cent said they were happy living there.

The news could result in scores of people contacting letting agents in Brighton to make enquiries about relocating to the city.

Sadly, those in Bristol were found to be the least happy, with just 20 per cent responding positively, according to The Press Association. Those residing in Cardiff did not fare much better; just 23 per cent said they were happy.

Generally speaking, 60 per cent of Brits said they were “happy with their lives”, citing scenery and culture among the best things about living in the UK.

The survey also showed that a quarter of those polled intended to take their annual holiday in the UK this year, though only 20 per cent said this was for economic reasons. The majority said they wanted to explore coastlines and countryside – both elements that Brighton possesses in abundance.

This coincides with findings from Skyscanner’s latest poll, showing Brighton at the top of their holiday happiness list. The city scored 9.3 out of ten and beat London, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Belfast.
